A Migration, indeed.� On first listen to Brooklyn-based Takka Takka's new full-length, you may find yourself asking, "Where are the speaky, Lou Reed-esque vocals?� Where are the hand claps and the accoridan?� Where's that fun, 1970's Greenwich Village swagger?"� Sadly, all gone.� Or maybe not so sad.� Really, are we so attached to Velvet Underground-twinged indie rock that we'd begrudge Takka Takka their transformation?� I hope not, especially when it's good. ...

I�ve been having a bitch of a time trying to review Dr. Dog�s latest CD, Fate. Of minor annoyance, I don�t know Dr. Dog's music as well as I should, which doesn�t affect my ability to take a CD on its own merits, but it also doesn�t allow me to comment on how this album may or may not differ/show growth/display a downturn, etc.� On a much larger scale, I can�t for the life of me figure out why I don�t absolutely love this thing.�

First off, anyone listening to Lucero's recent release, Nobody?s Darlings, without already knowing better, is hereby summarily forgiven for thinking they were listening to a reunion album by The Replacements. The two bands sound that much alike. This shouldn't really be a surprise, as the record was produced by Jim Dickinson, who has previously worked with the 'Mats, as well as a whole host of influential artists (Big Star, Screamin' Jay Hawkins, The Rolling Stones ...
